It’s A Hard Knock Life (batch 3) 500ml

Released for the first time since April 2022, we present batch #3 of our beloved English style barleywine: Hard Knock Life.

Barleywine is, for us, a labor of love we proudly embrace. We start early in the morning stuffing our mash tun full to the top twice, extracting as much sugar as we can from the fine English Maris Otter malted barley. After mashing, we boil late into the night to concentrate the malty goodness and reduce the sugar to a rich concentrated wort, which we painstakingly ferment with a massive amount of yeast.

This particular release is a single barrel expression of that beer that we have chosen from our barrel racks, after being aged 20 months in a prized Willett Family Estate 10 year rye cask. Rich yet dry enough to facilitate easy sipping, layers of malt complexity and dark fruits bely a distinct and unique rye barrel character. A barrel so profound that when we tasted this barrel, we knew we wanted to release it alone specifically to highlight the exceptional characteristics the cask has brought to the table.
